Carefully groomed greens shape the face of top North American golfing destination, Brainerd, though this central Minnnesota city is also close to a handful of historic sites and sparkling lakes.
The history of this church dates back to 1858, when Catholics in the area began to build a small wooden structure which was destroyed during the 1862 Conflict. A second building, built in 1869, was destroyed by a tornado. The cornerstone for the present church was laid in 1890; work was completed in 1901. A German baroque influence can be seen in the interior decorations, which include heavy dark colors and gold ornamentation. The arched ceilings contain numerous paintings. Self-guided tours.
