Description

The Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, Minnesota, will mount two productions by its professional company in 2013. Twelfth Night, directed by Artistic Director Paul Barnes and thought by many to be Shakespeare's best, deepest, and most moving comedy, is both a meditation on love and loss, and a boisterous, rollicking farce. First produced by GRSF in 2006, 10th Anniversary Season audiences will return to Shakespeare's Illyria in a newly re-imagined production. King Henry V, directed by Guest Director James Edmondson (2012's King Lear), resumes the story of Prince Hal, the wayward youth, now England's king. A celebration of the theatre itself as well as one of England's most beloved monarchs, Henry V provides a mesmerizing blend of action, warfare, romance, and humor, as the young man becomes a charismatic and inspiring leader in one of Shakespeare's most gripping and imaginative plays. GRSF's 2013 season interns and apprentices will perform Shakespeare's dark tragedy, "Macbeth," under the direction of founding company member Rick Barbour. When the aging King Duncan names his eldest son, Malcolm, as possible successor to the throne, Macbeth and his ambitious wife take matters into their own hands. Their quest for power leads Scotland to the brink in this epic tale of bloodshed and the supernatural. The 2013 10th Anniversary Season is slated to run from June 26 through August 4th. All performances take place at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Winona State University. Playgoers may expect a full line up of companion events, including Will's Opening Weekend (WOW), Concerts on the Green, the Front Porch Events, Callithump III, and more. Tickets go on sale December 12th at GRSF's first annual Holiday Party from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN.
