Description

Lake of the Woods is a remnant of the ancient Lake Agissiz, straddling the border of the United States and Canada. It is incredibly large and can be considered in two parts: the Canadian side littered with islands, and the United States side, vast and open. The recreational experience is very different between the two, though the activities overlap.

Fish are plentiful, from northern pike and lake perch to muskellunge and bass. Getting a fishing boat to the water is fairly easy by way of the many rural roads leading right to the water.

To really explore Lake of the Woods you'll need a houseboat rental. There's really no better way to claim a private island, or islands, for the duration your vacation while still having creature comforts like a bed and a kitchen. Gill's Morson marina has lots of classic houseboat styles, great for anything from a small fishing trip to a large family expedition.
