In 1832 the smallest area of land that could be acquired was reduced to the 40 acre quarter-quarter section, thus making it possible for many more people to afford to start a farm. To our ancestors, forty acres was synonymous with the word "opportunity". A quarter/quarter of land represented the opportunity to earn a living, become a productive part of a rural community, and provide for your family. Welcome to our "quarter/quarter".
