Watery wilderness and paddlers' paradise, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is best known for its long-distance water trails, though there is also a selection of land routes on hand for aspiring hikers.
The park is named for Henry Rowe Schoolcraft who, guided by the Anishinabe, camped in the immediate area during his quest for the source of the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River is a little wider but quieter here as it flows through the park than the busy Headwaters. Hikers, campers and canoeist enjoy a nice view of the river from the park. Staffed by nearby Hill Annex Mine State Park.
