Description
The Superior Hiking Trail is a 205-mile long footpath that follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior in northeastern Minnesota. The trail has trailheads with parking lots every 5-10 miles making it ideal for both day hikes and backpacking.

The trail has 81 backcountry campsites. There are no fees, reservations, or permits required to hike or backpack on the trail. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on a leash at all times.
The Superior Hiking Trail is built and maintained by the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA). Please join SHTA to help continue to build and maintain this spectacular trail!
The SHTA store and office is located in Two Harbors, MN.
SHTA publishes and sells "The Guide to the Superior Hiking Trail, 2004 Edition" for $15.95 and a complete set of maps for the trail for $1.95. We also sell t-shirts, other guide books and other trail items.
SHTA is currently building 40 miles of trail through the forests and ridges of Duluth. One 7.5 mile section is already completed for your hiking enjoyment.
